Section 01 / Comparison scope

How the destination file is assembled

This page holds the working file for fourteen winter destinations across the Ukrainian Carpathians and the neighbouring ranges we book into. Each entry is compiled the same way, from the same four blocks, so a reader can move between resorts without relearning the page.

Nothing here is a ranking. A dossier states what the lift office reported on the dateline above, what the road transfer costs in time, which lodging bands exist in the village, and when the season actually runs. Where a comparison is unavoidable it is qualified: the shortest road transfer in this copy of the file, the narrowest beginner pen, the latest confirmed snow record.

Scope
14 destinations, 4 dossier blocks each: conditions, infrastructure, lodging, seasonality.
Method
Lift and piste figures taken from resort offices by telephone, then transcribed into the matrix without rounding.
Prices
Itemised build-up ending in a total per person, with a separate not-included list beneath it.
Agency role
Piste Bureau LLC coordinates bookings. It does not operate lifts, properties or transfer vehicles.

Reported by resort lift offices; transcribed by Piste Bureau LLC, 15 Rynok Square, Lviv. Corrections are logged against the dateline, not silently replaced.

Dossier Blocks

Four labelled blocks per resort

Bukovel
1,062 m base

Conditions

Base at 1,062 m, summit at 1,372 m. Machine snow covers the lower third; upper runs hold natural snow into March. Wind holds on the ridge lifts are the usual disruption.

Infrastructure

Twenty lifts, four of them fast quads. Queue at the central station measured 11 minutes on a peak Saturday. Two lower runs stay lit until 20:00.

Lodging

1,100 UAH per person per night in a village guesthouse up to 4,900 UAH in a slope-side hotel with breakfast. Lift passes are not included in either figure.

Seasonality

Cover holds from late December to early April. The first week of January is the busiest window; the last two weeks of March are the quietest.

Best for
Mixed-ability groups who want lift-served terrain and a bed within walking distance.
Avoid if
You need a short road transfer. The village sits 2 km from the main lift base and the shuttle runs on a fixed half-hour timetable.

Dragobrat
1,400 m base

Conditions

The highest road-served base in the Carpathians. Snow holds into May on the upper bowls; the access road turns unsealed for the final 8 km.

Infrastructure

Six surface lifts and one chair. Uphill capacity is limited, so a 15-minute wait at the chair is normal after 10:00 at weekends.

Lodging

Guesthouses only, 900 to 2,200 UAH per person per night, most of them with half board. No hotel group operates on the mountain.

Seasonality

Open late December to mid April. Fog is common in February; April mornings run firm and fast before midday softening.

Best for
Travellers who read snow conditions and accept a rough access road in exchange for altitude.
Avoid if
Your group includes beginners or arrives in a low-clearance vehicle. The final approach is unsealed and steep.

Slavske
620 m base

Conditions

Two ridges of cut runs from a 620 m base. Snowmaking covers about 40% of marked terrain, and lower runs can thin during a thaw.

Infrastructure

Rail-served from Lviv in roughly two hours. Twelve lifts, none high-speed. A single day pass costs 780 UAH.

Lodging

Private rooms from 650 UAH per person per night, plus two mid-range hotels at about 1,600 UAH, both within walking distance of the lower lift.

Seasonality

Best cover mid January to mid March. Weekends bring day-trippers from Lviv; weekdays stay quiet.

Best for
Short breaks by rail where the transfer matters more than vertical drop.
Avoid if
You want firm cover during a thaw or lift-served terrain above the tree line.

Lodging bands

Four bands, defined by the walk to the lift

Every property in the matrix is filed against one of four bands. The band is fixed by the measured walking distance from the building door to the nearest lift base, not by star rating and not by the property's own wording. Two buildings in different resorts can sit in the same band and be compared on price alone.

C · Valley terrace 400–900 m €30–€46 Two and three-bedroom apartments, small hotels Fixed shuttle timetable, with the last run before 22:00
D · Out of village Over 900 m €22–€34 Chalets and guesthouses with parking Car or taxi needed daily; no skiable return to the door

How a band price is built

Occupancy
Two adults sharing a twin or double, seven nights, Saturday to Saturday.
Currency
Euro, converted at the desk rate on the day of the comparison.
Fees
Cleaning fee and local lodging tax are added before the total is shown.

Not included in any band

  • Lift pass and equipment rental
  • Road transfer from the arrival station
  • Breakfast, unless the rate sheet names it
  • Parking in bands A and B

Per-resort exceptions, including the two villages where band C sits closer to the lift than the table implies, are listed in the dossiers. Read the destination dossiers. If a band looks wrong for a specific building, send the property name to the desk and we will re-measure.
